Police: Wayne County Deputy charged with molesting child, turned self in

Charges have been filed against a Wayne County sergeant accused of sexually molesting an underage child.

He's now facing four counts of criminal sexual conduct, three of them involving a child under the age of 13.

The Wayne County sergeant facing these accusations worked at the William Dickerson Detention Facility, until recently turning himself in to Dearborn police.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff, 48-year-old Thomas Pedersen, a longtime employee with the department, told police officers he needed mental help for issues involving a child.

On Monday, a judge signed a warrant for his arrest, issuing four charges three for criminal sexual conduct with a person under the age of 13, with one count of second degree criminal sexual conduct.

Pedersen is a long time employee with the sheriff's office who began working there in Sept., 1995. He was promoted to sgt in 2012. The sheriff's office is planning to respond to the allegations, as soon as he is arraigned.

Pedersen will be formally arraigned as soon as he is arrested. At last check he is still in a local hospital where he is receiving treatment for mental health issues.
