"We have an opportunity to do something that’s phenomenal. I don’t want to just call it the Riviera of the Middle East; this could be so magnificent," Trump said.
The meaning behind Trump’s words remains elusive means as no one knows what this really means in practical terms.
A senior Hamas official has already dismissed the idea, and voices from around the world, including Texas Democratic congressman Al Green, criticized the notion of relocating Palestinians from Gaza, labeling it an impeachable offense.
"I rise to announce that I will bring articles of impeachment against the president for dastardly deeds proposed and dastardly deeds done," Green said.
The Executive Director of the American and Human Rights Council Imad Hamad stressed the gravity of the situation in Gaza.
"It’s very sad, very tragic to hear the President of the United States make the reference to Gaza like it’s a demolished site" said Hamad. "Not the deliberate destruction and deliberate killing of of 62,000 people."
Regional powers like Egypt and Jordan, who are backed by other U.S. allies, warn the plan could destabilize the Middle East.
