Royal Oak Library reopening after cockroach in DVD case caused temporary closure

The Royal Oak Public Library will reopen Monday afternoon after a cockroach in a DVD case led to it being closed over the weekend.

According to the library, a pest control company identified the roach via a photo taken by library staff.

The library closed Saturday after staff said they found what appeared to be multiple species of bugs in a DVD case that was placed in an outdoor drop box sometime Friday night into Saturday morning. In a post made Monday, the library said, "The photos we shared showed that it was a cockroach."

In addition to identifying the insect, the pest control company inspected other materials that were in the drop box, the boxes, and the rest of the library. No other bugs were found.

The library will open at 1 p.m. Monday.

"We receive monthly pest inspections of the building, so you should not have any worries about coming to the library," the library said in the post.
