Search for missing Warren mother: Family seeks help after disappearance
WARREN, Mich. (FOX 2) - A family is asking for help in the search for a mother from Warren who went missing after running errands.
A 30-year-old hairstylist and mother of two, Ashley Elkins, was last seen Jan. 2 leaving her home to run errands.
Her mother, Monika Elkins, made multiple phone calls and wrote many texts to Ashley, but with no response, except for a text from her phone to her sister stating she was heading back from a beauty supply store.
As the family tried to contact Ashely, her family says her cell phone pinged at a Roseville address where her family said her ex-boyfriend lives.
Ashley’s uncle, Atty Maurice Morton says the family is working with the police to find Ashley.
"We’re asking the media and, more importantly, we're asking the police to take this seriously," he said.
When it comes to missing cases of black and brown people, the family believes they don’t get the attention that other cases attract.
"We don’t want to make this about race, but it's often, it’s a little too common theme when it comes to missing black or brown women."
Warren police say investigators have canvassed several area businesses for video to help determine where Elkins may be.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Warren Police Department.
"I need everybody all over Detroit, all over wherever, like all over Michigan to come out and help me search for her," said Monika.
