WATCH: Seven suspects flee from stolen Kia in Detroit
DETROIT (FOX 2) - Michigan State Police is crediting its helicopter with tracking down seven suspects running from a stolen Kia on Saturday.
In a video posted by MSP, seven suspects can be seen running from the reportedly stolen car after they ran from a traffic stop in Detroit.
MSP said a license plate reader identified the stolen car. Troopers responded and tried to pull the car over but the driver sped away instead.
Troopers didn't chase on the ground – but instead a helicopter flew to track the vehicle, starting on Puritan and continuing south onto Livernois.
As police tracked the car, they reported it running through multiple red lights and speeding down Livernois before turning into a neighborhood just south of the Davison freeway.
The suspects ultimately stopped at a house in Detroit on Duane Street, where all seven suspects jumped out and ran from the car and then ran through a couple of different yards and into the back of a home on Elmhurst.
In the video, you can see the suspects climb through windows of the home as MSP hovered overhead. Three suspects ran from the scene, however, but were arrested by troopers on the ground.
The other four suspects were all arrested.
"It is not everyday you see seven suspects run from a stolen vehicle." said First Lt. Mike Shaw. "Again we see through the use of technology and MSP aviation, another stolen car recovered and a firearm is off the streets. At this time it hasn’t been determined if this group of suspects had committed any other crimes."
