Massive apartment fire leaves 1 dead and multiple injured in Southfield

Several fire departments have battled the blaze where white smoke was noticed on the second level and spread through the attic. impacting 16 units and two stories. The upper floor sustained the most damage.

The Southfield Fire Department says one person is dead and three injured from a large fire at an apartment complex on fire just north of 10 Mile.

One body has been recovered by first responders, who say she is a woman in her 70s. It is unclear if she was visiting or was a resident. 

Three people suffered non-life-threatening injuries with smoke inhalation. Two were treated at the scene, one at the hospital.

Around 2:15 p.m. on Monday, the call of the fire came in to the Southfield Fire Department to Le Chateu Apartments on Southfield Road, south of 10 and 11 mile roads.

Large apartment fire in Southfield

SkyFOX flew over the scene of a large apartment fire in Southfield Monday afternoon.

Six different fire departments have battled the blaze including Farmington Hills, Birmingham and others. 

White smoke was noticed on the second level and spread through the attic. impacting 16 units and two stories. The upper floor sustained the most damage.

A neighboring unit to the north of it was also evacuated due to the high winds.

The cause is still under investigation.
