Southwest Detroit antique shop catches fire again; cause under investigation

For the second time in a year and a half, crews battled a fire at a Southwest Detroit antique shop.

Firefighters were called to the store at the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Parkinson Street around 12:20 a.m. Monday.

What we know:

"There was fire coming through the roof, first floor, second floor," said Detroit Fire Department Battalion Chief Troy Klann.

Klann said the flames were so intense that his crews struggled to get inside the burning building.

It isn't clear if anyone was inside the building, but no injuries were reported. Other connected businesses, including a barbershop, did not appear to be impacted by the fire.

What we don't know:

The same antique store also caught fire in October 2023. Fire officers suspected that blaze was caused by squatters.

It isn't clear what caused the most recent fire. An investigation is ongoing.
