Dearborn student taken to hospital after being struck by car

A 15-year-old who attends Fordson High School is in critical condition after they were hit by a vehicle near the Dearborn school Friday morning.

A 15-year-old who attends Fordson High School is in critical condition after they were hit by a vehicle near the Dearborn school Friday morning.

Police said the ninth grader was crossing Ford Road, a 40 mph zone, near Schaefer when they were struck around 7:35 a.m. According to Dearborn Police Corporal Dan Bartok, it isn't clear if the crash happened at the intersection or not.

The driver, also a teenager, stayed at the scene, while the victim was taken to a hospital, where they are receiving treatment. 

In a statement from the school principal, he requested people keep the victim in their thoughts.

"At this time, all we can share is that the student is in the hospital with serious injuries. As we continue to talk with the family we will pass along further details with their permission," said Chadi Farhat. "We ask that everyone please direct all your thoughts and prayers to the family during this very difficult time."

As traffic crash reconstruction is conducted, police are seeking information from witnesses.
