Hair stylists plan to volunteer their time to give homeless people haircuts as part of a Detroit event.

"PMTS4Change" takes place Friday at the Cass Community Social Services Activity Center. Homeless people also will get "Street Survival Kits" that include toiletries, sunscreen, socks and other personal items. Singer-songwriter Sean Z is scheduled to perform.

Those involved in the effort include Paul Mitchell The School, Loving the Least and Cass Community Social Services.

"It makes them feel like a person again, to be cared for, important, to look good. So much is tied to our appearance and our cleanliness, so to be scrubbed up and buffed up and sent out looking good again, it lifts your spirits. It gives you hope," says Rev. Faith Fowler.

PMTS4Change is asking people interested in supporting the event to donate toiletries, first aid items, lip balm and refreshments for lunch.
