The owners of new hope pharmacy on Detroit's east side aren't letting an early morning break-in get them down.

The thieves stole cash and cough syrup.

"Nothing big happened, the cost is about a thousand dollars not too big you know," said owner Magid Shaukad.

It happened at about 4:30 a.m. in the 19000 block of Conant. First the thieves hot-wired the electrical security box outside, the security door rolled open. They then smashed the front door and unlocked it.

"Sometimes they try to break the register but I just keep the key so they can open and take it," said owner Maksaudli Sayad. "The damage could be $500 to $600; instead they took $200, that's it."

But the owners of new hope pharmacy say the thieves didn't get any hard drugs.

Owners say they keep very little on hand and what they do have is kept locked in a safe.
