AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (FOX 2) - The weather has turned cold on us once again, but golf fans have a new place to keep the game alive in metro Detroit. Topgolf's first location in Michigan is now open for business.
The 16-acre property is at I-75 and Joslyn Road in Auburn Hills. If you've been out by Great Lakes Crossing Outlets recently, you've seen the giant nets and driving range.
At Topgolf you can enjoy the game in a climate-controlled hitting bay, which are alongside a full-service restaurant and bar. There's also private space for your next big event.
"It offers a little something for everyone," Director of Operations Brian Birckbichler says. "Obviously we're golf-centered but it's more like sports entertainment than a driving range. So, if it's your first time ever swinging a club, we're your place. If you're an avid golfer, we're your place. Whether it's date night, gender reveals, corporate or social parties - lunch breaks, we see that a lot, too - we are growing the game of golf and excited to be in Michigan."
The hitting bay suites, which resemble bowling-alley seating, still open up to the outdoors. So, you'll notice a bit of the winter chill here in Michigan, but they also come equipped with heaters (and ceiling fans for the summer). You can rent a bay per hour for $25, $35 or $45, depending on the time and day.
You can bring your own club or borrow some for free. They have them for women, men, righties, lefties, kids and toddlers.
If you're waiting for your bay, you can hang out and watch one of the 250 high-definition TVs, or play pool or shuffleboard for free.
All the golf balls are microchipped to record precise landing spots. Lighted targets along the 215-yard range let you play nine different golf games. Two 50-foot-wide video screens at the end of the range help keep track of a big game that might be going on.
You can watch how how the technology works in the video player above.
