Tourist who fell to death at Michigan's Pictured Rocks was taking selfie

A California woman fell to her death Wednesday afternoon slipped while trying to take a selfie, according to a newspaper in northern Michigan.

Tu Thanh Nguyen, 32, from Sunnyvale, California, slipped and fell at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Marquette Mining Journal, Nguyen was hiking alone on the North Country Trail on Wednesday. She stopped about a half of a mile away from Grand Portal Point to take a selfie, when she fell about 200 feet off the cliff to Lake Superior.

Two kayakers witnessed the fall and were able to retrieve her and bring her to shore near Chapel Beach. 

The journal reports a local kayak company then radioed in for paramedics but Nguyen was pronounced dead at the scene.
