A Michigan State Trooper was injured in a car crash on Detroit's west side early Wednesday morning. The driver of the other vehicle was also injured.

The crash happened along Fenkell Avenue near St. Mary's Street, which is a few blocks away from the Southfield Freeway. Another trooper was also in the vehicle at the time of the crash but was not injured.

We're told the troopers were coming to assist another trooper who pulled over someone in a routine traffic stop. That's when a man driving an SUV blew a flashing red light.

"At this point in time, narcotics may have been a factor with the driver of the Chevy Suburban," says Michigan State Police Sgt. Paul Flores. Drugs were found in the car. He said the driver is cooperating and is in custody receiving treatment at the hospital.

The trooper sent to the hospital has already been treated and released.

The driver is currently being held on a warrant from another city.
