Twitter goes after Michigan financial planner named George Papadopoulos
NOVI, Mich. (WJBK) - A Michigan man's common Greek name has led to some harassment on Twitter.
George Papadopoulos, a former campaign aide to President Trump, has been making headlines lately. He pleaded guilty to charges that he lied to the FBI.
Internet trolls lashed out on social media, accidentally targeting the wrong George Papadoupoulos -- a financial planner that lives in Novi, Mich.
That Papadoupoulos says he was visiting his mom in Greece when his social media notifications skyrocketed. He responded with a few of his own tweets, saying he has no association with the Trump campaign.
"For the nth time, I am NOT Trump's foreign policy adviser! I have NO association with the Trump camp! NONE!" he tweeted Tuesday morning.
Trump blasts Papadopoulos, former aide at center of Russia probe, as 'liar'
The Michigan Papadopoulos has been rolling with the punches, though, and is responding to some individual tweets with a bit of humor.
One person tweeted at him, "can't wait to watch u try to wriggle out of this one."
He replied, "I am NOT that guy! Visiting my mother in Greece now and can assure u I am getting so fat eating the dishes she makes me...so no wiggling :) ."
He added that George Papadopoulos is a very common Greek name.
On Twitter, Trump sought to dismiss his former aide George Papadopoulos, who has provided key evidence in the first criminal case connecting Trump's team to alleged intermediaries for Russia's government.
Said Trump: "Few people knew the young, low level volunteer named George, who has already proven to be a liar. Check the DEMS!"
