Two injured in Christmas morning apartment fire in Southfield
SOUTHFIELD, MICH (Fox 2) - The Southfield Fire Department responded to a fully involved fire in the 24000 block of Walden Road, Christmas morning.
Two people were injured. One was treated at the scene, the other transported to a local hospital for further treatment.
"We are so thankful and grateful that no lives were lost this Christmas Day," says Southfield Fire Chief, Johnny Menifee. "This is another stark reminder of why working smoke detectors are so important."
The Fire Department arrived at the scene of the five unit townhouse complex within 5 minutes to find the structure fully involved. An immediate offensive attack was made that included fire suppression and search and rescue.
The structure is deemed uninhabitable, and work continues to place families in temporary housing. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Five additional fire departments responded to the Oakway Mutual Aid call to assist. The Southfield Fire Department would like to thank the Ferndale, Bloomfield Township, Royal Oak, West Bloomfield and Madison Heights fire departments for sending units to the two-alarm fire.
