VERNON, Mich. (FOX 2) - Two tornados were confirmed to have touched down Thursday night in Shiawassee County. Homes were damaged and power was knocked out for thousands.
The National Weather Service gave information about the weaker tornado, an EF-0, that touched down from 6:47 - 6:54 p.m. The NWS says this tornado snapped down several trees and left other minor damages.
They'll be releasing information about the second, stronger tornado later today.
State police say that roughly 70 homes and businesses were damaged, but no injuries were immediately reported.
Marc Stine, whose barn in Vernon, Mich. was destroyed by the tornado, says he was outside when he saw the funnel cloud approaching. Thankfully, all the cattle in his barn were safe.
"Thanks to about 30 neighbors and friends and farmers, we got them out," Stine told us. "People are okay; cows are okay; we're good."
Severe weather also moved through nearby Genesee County, where a mobile home park was damaged. Weather service officials say an unconfirmed tornado reportedly touched down nearby in the Flushing area at 7:12 p.m.
Lower Michigan also saw severe thunderstorm warnings, watches, flooding, high winds and hail as a late-winter storm system trekked across the Midwest.
