Suspect found dead after shooting two women in Sterling Heights parking lot
Police say two women were shot by a man in the parking lot of an old Ruby Tuesday restaurant that closed a few years ago. Hours later the suspected gunman was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound behind a car dealership on Van Dyke.
STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. (FOX 2) - Gunfire ripped through the busy Van Dyke corridor in Sterling Heights midday Friday.
Police say two women were shot by a man in the parking lot of an old Ruby Tuesday restaurant that closed a few years ago. Hours later the suspected gunman was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound behind a car dealership on Van Dyke.
The victims are hospitalized in stable condition and expected to recover.
Police say it happened at 1:15 p.m. when the gunman approached two women in a black sedan that just pulled up to the parking lot of the abandoned restaurant - when both women were shot and fled.
"One ended up on the ground in the parking lot right in front of the closed Ruby Tuesday by the main door," said Police Chief Dale Dwojakowski. "The other female ran the complete opposite direction towards a Chipotle restaurant, to a drive-thru window. She started banging on the door, they started calling the police. And at that point the suspect had already fled on foot."
The suspected shooter was found dead behind the Crest Lincoln Body Shop. Investigators have not released the name of the deceased suspect just yet.
Police say all three knew each other in what they call a "social relationship."

Sterling Heights Police search for shooter of two women Friday
Two women were shot in the parking lot of closed business on Friday in Sterling Heights. Now police are searching for the shooter who ran on foot.
The chaos prompted the lockdown of several nearby schools.
"Immediately when this incident occurred, we put Utica Community Schools and Warren Community Consolidated Schools into lockdown," the chief said. "Several schools went into lockdown in the immediate surrounding areas."
