(WJBK) - An elderly man who lives right on Moross on Detroit’s east side, is always sitting in front of this window, but he says God was on his side, because he was sitting in the back when a car came careening into his house.
“I heard loud boom then a crash,” Cleveland Mosley said.
Cleveland Mosely is shaken up himself.
Saturday afternoon, a utility van came crashing into his living room at Moross near Balfour on Detroit’s East side.
“God was with me because if I was in the front room in my momma electric recliner I would have been hurt completely,” Mosley said.
The 36-year-old driver of the van was arrested, police say he had no license, no insurance and drug paraphernalia in the car.
Cleveland devastated by the damage that man caused especially upset over a very special grandfather clock.
“I just had my grandfather clock not too long ago, it’s completely damaged,” he said.
Cleveland has no family around, thankfully neighbors and strangers came together to help.
“He was breaking down crying and we were able to calm him down, Michelle Alston said.
After police left, looters started coming out.
“We had already had gawkers come out in our face, stop and look in his house, I am very concerned,” Alston said.
FOX 2 Problem Solvers stepped in – making a call to Jarvis Property Restoration who showed up a half hour later.
“Definitely open damage here tonight,” Joe Zilewski said with Jarvis Property Restoration.
Joe Zilewski works for Jarvis and actually grew up right down the block from Cleveland.
“It’s completely damaged, I don’t want any and everybody going in my house and taking my stuff,” Mosley said.
They will board up the house for now, until Cleveland decides what to do next.
“Unfortunately a lot of people get caught in the crossfire but there is answers for them, they can get fix back up and put back to normal,” Zilewski said.
Jarvis restoration is going to work with Cleveland to get this repaired, but at least for this night his stuff is safe inside.
