Vigil, fundraiser planned in memory of Wayne State officer killed in line of duty
DETROIT (WJBK) - Wayne State University is planning a candlelight vigil for the campus police officer who was killed in the line of duty.
The Detroit school said the vigil is planned for 6:15 p.m. Tuesday in the center of campus. It's expected to include a moment of silence at 6:30 p.m., the time when officer Collin Rose was shot one week earlier.
Funeral arrangements also have been announced. A visitation is scheduled from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday at Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions, and visitation and funeral Mass are planned Thursday morning at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in St. Clair Shores.
Rose was shot as he tried to arrest DeAngelo Davis, who was arraigned Friday on murder and gun charges. Rose died last Wednesday at a hospital.
Detroit Dog Rescue is also holding a fundraiser for the fiance of Rose, Nikki Salgot. Salgot is a staff member at DDR.
The fundraiser is Tuesday, November 29 from 4-10 p.m. at Tony V's Tavern on Cass Avenue in Detroit. Donations will be taken at the door, and those who donate $15 or more will receive unlimited pizza and pop.
