Kiah Hopson would have turned 25 years old Friday, but would never get to celebrate with her family.

The 24-year-old was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds after neighbors called 911 to say they had heard gunfire.

Tonight family and friends turned out for a vigil to honor her and because they want justice for Kiah Hopson.

Kiah's little nephew she loved so much was there Friday, along with so many who loved her.

“There’s a lot of love here," said Bridget, Kiah's mother. "It’s freezing out here, it's cold out here. But my daughter had a lot of love.”

They stood in the same place the Sterling Heights nurse was found dead less than a week ago after she left her job. She was shot multiple times.

“Whoever did it you are dirty," Bridget. "We will meet you again. There is going to be hell to pay before we meet again.”

Those who stood in the snow and braved the cold for Kiah want answers.

“It’s been almost a week now," said Kendra, Kiah's friend. "I don't know who would do this to her. Kiah is an amazing person, anyone who came into contact with her. She motivated every single person.”

The rallying cry for those at the vigil: "We want justice."

"We should be celebrating her life," said Alfred, her father.

In terms of the investigation Sterling Heights police have increased patrols in the area to make residents feel safe but have nothing further to add in terms of leads and suspects.
