WASHTENAW COUNTY, Mich. (FOX 2) - Three people died after a wrong-way driver hit another vehicle while on a freeway ramp Washtenaw County on Wednesday morning.
Michigan State Police said both sides of the road are open, but the ramp to eastbound M-14 from Gotfredson will be closed indefinitely for an investigation.
According to MSP, a 2024 Nissan Rouge was going the wrong way on eastbound M-14 and tried to use the Gotfredson to get off the freeway just before 7:20 a.m. The Rouge hit a 2020 Tesla that was getting on the freeway the correct way.
The crash caused the Tesla to catch fire, and as of 11:15 a.m., crews were still working to put out the fire.
The driver of the Tesla, a 53-year-old Munith man, was killed. The driver and passenger in the Rouge, a 31-year-old Battle Creek man and 27-year-old Battle Creek woman, also died.
Police said it isn't clear if drugs or alcohol were factors. An investigation is ongoing.
