Welcome to Joyland! Festive Dearborn Heights homeowner brings holiday joy to the community
Century long family tradition brings joy to Dearborn Heights community
It's gotten so big that he doesn't bother taking it down anymore. But how many individual pieces are there?
DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. (FOX 2) - We're in the thick of the holiday season—and plenty of people are showing their Christmas spirit. That includes one very festive homeowner in Dearborn Heights.
Welcome to Joyland! And for Mark Gray of Dearborn Heights, it has been a generational project.
"Over 100 years in our family," said Gray. "My grandmother started this and then it just came down the line. Then my mother and my aunt."
First Christmas only, but then he started adding other attractions.
"Monorails, trains, rides, carnival rides," he said.
It's gotten so big that he doesn't bother taking it down anymore. But how many individual pieces are there?
"It's probably thousands that I can think of, over thousands," he said.
Quite the cost over the years, but Mark isn't concerned with that.
"When you build something like this you don't worry about how much you spend, you just do it," he said.
He does it because he loves it.
"If everyone smiled more in this world, we'd be doing a lot better," he said. "Merry Christmas, happy New Year, and joy to the world."
