Michelle Bommarito grew up working at her family's Italian market in Detroit, and now she's a chef whose passion is teaching others how to eat well and be healthy.

Michelle, who's appeared on the Food Network and Martha Stewart Living, is about to turn 50 -- though she has the energy and physique of someone half her age.

"I do not count calories," she says. "I reach for food as my fuel so I believe in eating every 3 to 4 hours. Not full meals; you have your breakfast, lunch and supper, but in between there's snacking."

The trick is eating the right foods.

Michelle believes in the Mediterranean diet, foods that you can pick, grow, or hunt.

"What Mother Nature gives us," she explains. "So, whole grains, lean cuts of meats, fruits and vegetables, legumes, peas, lentils and beans."

So, with every meal or snack, work on including a fruit or vegetable and skipping processed foods. And, long before your get into bed, take your last bite.

"You wait 3 hours before going to bed, don't eat anything, sleep properly so you can replenish and refuel, instead of trying to digest food if you eat too late. When you wake up in the morning and you feel refreshed," she says.

Michelle is teaming up with Henry Ford doctors to show off healthy cooking skills and focus on breast cancer and breast wellness. She'll be at the Breast Health Boot Camp. For more information, click here.
