Winter Weather Advisory • Fitzgerald Public Schools administrators arrested • Lions waive Brandon Joseph

Snow is on the way, along with freezing rain.

A Winter Weather Advisory goes into effect at noon and runs through 1 a.m. Tuesday for Lapeer, Oakland, Livingston, Macomb, and St. Clair Counties.

Accumulating snow will be the heaviest north of M-46. Two to four inches of snow are possible in that area, which is near the Thumb, while areas near Flint could see 1-3 inches.

In the Detroit area, snow is expected to start falling around 1 p.m. In Metro Detroit, 1-2 inches are expected. Mixing (freezing rain and sleet) is expected Downriver, and could lead to slightly less snow piling up.

Ice could be prevalent in Washtenaw County, which will be under a Winter Weather Advisory from 2-10 p.m.

Overnight lows remain below freezing, so what falls will stick. The snow wraps up overnight, though some light snow is possible Tuesday morning.

Fitzgerald Public Schools superintendent, administrator arrested

The superintendent of Fitzgerald Public Schools in Warren and the director of food services were both arrested Friday.

It isn't clear what led to the arrests of Superintendent Hollie Stange and the Food Services Director Amanda Carroll, but the school confirmed the arrests.

Stange posted bond and was released, an attorney speaking on her behalf said.

According to the district, Stange and Carroll were placed on leave pending the outcome of the criminal investigation, and the process has begun to appoint an interim superintendent and food services director.

More details are expected when the pair is arraigned.

Brandon Joseph waived by Lions after allegedly driving drunk

Lions safety Brandon Joseph was waived just hours after he was detained by police in Dearborn Heights on suspicion of drunk driving, and for allegedly speeding.

The team announced that the second year player had been waived as part of several roster moves on Saturday, before the team traveled to Chicago where they beat the Bears 34-17.

Joseph had played in all 14 games prior to being waived. The team didn't release any information on why he was cut, but it happened after he was detained for "several hours" by the Dearborn Heights Police Department.

Paul Vanderplow, a director with the Dearborn Heights Police Department, said that Joseph was compliant and didn't cause a scene during the stop, or while in custody. He was released without charges filed, pending the results of a blood draw.

Who qualifies for the 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit

A small number of taxpayers will be receiving a special payment from the IRS in the coming weeks.

Here’s what the rebate payment is, and who is getting it:

The IRS said most taxpayers eligible for the federal stimulus payments, formally known as Economic Impact Payments, have already received them, but that approximately 1 million taxpayers left the credit unclaimed.

The special payments are being sent to taxpayers who filed a 2021 tax return but left the data field for the Recovery Rebate Credit blank or they filled it out as $0 when they were actually eligible for the credit.

Payments will vary but the maximum amount will be $1,400 per individual.

The payments will go out automatically this month and should arrive by direct deposit or check by late January 2025.
