Woman dies in crash that splits car in half on Berg, 7 Mile in Detroit
DETROIT (FOX 2) - A horrific crash on Detroit’s west side left the female driver dead and a utility police split in two.
"It was like something out of a movie, literally," a witness said. "Something you can't get out your head."
A 24-year-old woman is dead after the accident on 7 Mile just east of Berg at about 5 p.m. Friday evening.
Witnesses say the woman was headed eastbound on Seven Mile before crashing and tearing her car in two. She was ejected from the vehicle.
"It was a high rate of speed and she must have lost control of the vehicle and she flipped up in the air and split the pole," said the witness.
A man who did not want to be identified, says he was driving on the road when the crash happened and had he not slowed down to avoid the woman, he would have crashed too.
Onlookers stood shocked with the severity of the crash unlike anything they'd seen.
Detroit police say the woman was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.
"My prayers go out to the family, they are not taking it too well," the witness said. "I talked to one of the members and they're not doing too well."
DTE Energy crews had to come out to cut power do those utility poles because the car ended up on top of live wires. It is unclear why the woman was driving so fast. DPD says the investigation is ongoing.
