Woman injured in stabbing along Detroit Riverwalk

DETROIT (WJBK) - Police are investigating a stabbing that happened along Detroit's Riverwalk early Wednesday morning.

Police say a 25-year-old woman, who is homeless, was stabbed at least twice in the right side of her neck around 4 a.m. The stabbing happened along the Riverwalk near the Princess Boat.

Police say the woman, who has not been identified, was taken to the hospital in temporary serious condition.

Police say the woman told them she was stabbed by a man for no apparent reason. Police describe the suspect as a black man about 5 feet 7 inches tall with a skinny build. Police say he was wearing a white T-shirt.

Police are also investigating a possible second assault. After speaking with the woman, police were called a few blocks over to the area of Woodward and Jefferson avenues to help an elderly man with a gash in the back of his head.

The 86-year-old Hispanic man, who police say is also homeless, was intoxicated and had difficulty expressing himself, so police don't know at this time if the man was also assaulted or if he sustained the injury in a fall.

The man was taken to the hospital and is listed in stable condition.

Police say if the man was also assaulted, it's not known at this time if he and the young woman were targeted by the same suspect.
