Woman's Great Dane shot in the head protecting her during home invasion
PONTIAC, Mich. (WJBK) - Masked men burst into a Pontiac woman's home and shoot her dog right in front of her.
Now she wants the men responsible - put behind bars.
"It's horrible not feeling safe in your own home," said the homeowner.
The pregnant Pontiac mother is scared to show her face after three masked men came into her home, killing her beloved Great Dane named Yukon.
"He's never hurt anybody a day in his life," she said.
She says they casually walked through her door while she was at her home near Telegraph and Walton in Pontiac.
"Initially I thought it was somebody playing a trick on me with Halloween right around the corner," she said.
It was not a joke - the men started asking her "where is it" she has no clue what they meant. When Yukon heard the men he came out barking, scaring two of them, the other went for his gun.
"He just shot him in the head right in front of me," she said.
She says Yukon wanted to protect her and her two sons that were in the basement.
The dog started bleeding everywhere," she said. "And he still followed me throughout the house. It was horrible, he still didn't give up on being by me."
The men ran off not taking anything from the house. They rushed Yukon to the vet but sadly, he had to be put down.
"He was just a great dog," she said. "I don't know why; I don't know what they wanted."
Investigators had no luck tracking the suspects with K9 units. The family has so many questions and the whole ordeal has left them uneasy to say the least.
"Especially being pregnant and about to give birth any day, I don't even want to bring my new baby home," she said.
