Back here at home a community in mourning nearly a week after a Wayne State University police officer was shot and killed near campus.

Now final preparations are underway to make sure everyone has a chance to pay tribute. Monday marked a dreary day on the campus of Wayne State University. The mood was somber as students remembered slain police officer Collin Rose.

Flags were at half-staff and flowers on the dashboard of Rose's squad car, on display in the center of campus. Rose was just 29 years old. He was a 5-year-veteran and a highly skilled canine handler.

Rose was shot in the head while patrolling an area a few blocks off campus Nov. 22. He died the following evening.

Student Natalie Waligora says she has been following the story intently.

"I  was watching it all (night), it's so sad," she said.

Police arrested a suspect a few hours after the shooting - 31-year-old DeAngelo Davis charged with the murder of officer Collin rose.

"One of my friends knew him personally," said Waligora. "Her posts were (about him) just ... gone too soon."

I just felt like I needed to pay tribute to him because he served all of us, by putting his life on the line for us," said student Attra Shamon.

Officer Rose will be laid to rest on Thursday.
