FOX 2's Jennifer Hammond reports that a source has confirmed to her that Ron Gardenhire will be the next Tigers manager.

The report was first filed by FOX Sports Ken Rosenthal and Katie Strang on The Athletic. Rosenthal cites sources as the hiring of Gardenhire selected by the Tigers, pending the completion of a contract.

The 59-year-old managed the Minnesota Twins for 13 years and won 1,068 games over that span. The Twins won the Central Division six times, including his first three years as the manager.

Gardenhire spent the past year as the bench coach of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

He replaces Brad Ausmus who was not retained after managing the Tigers for the past four seasons.

This is a developing story. Stay with FOX 2 for more information.
