Are the Detroit Pistons moving back to Detroit? The team will hold a press conference on Tuesday to discuss the possibility.

The Pistons and Ilitch Holdings announced on Monday that a press conference will be held on Tuesday at Cass Tech High School to address downtown discussions. The press conference is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. You can get links to watch the press conference live below.

Pistons owner Tom Gores, Ilitch President Christopher Ilitch, and Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan will all be at the press conference. The press release did not state whether the press conference would be the announcement that the Pistons are moving back to Detroit

FOX 2 confirmed last month that the Pistons were working on a plan to move to the Red Wings new Little Caesars Arena for next year.

The Mayor of Auburn Hills, Kevin McDaniel, released this statement to FOX 2 regarding the Pistons' possible move:

"In light of the numerous contacts I have had today from various media outlets that the Pistons organization will be making an announcement tomorrow about the team moving to Detroit, I can only say that it is disappointing news for Auburn Hills if indeed it happens. At this time, no Auburn Hills official has been informed that this is occurring. If it does however, the final disposition of the arena and its future use remain unknown and we hope that there will be some clarity that comes out of tomorrow's announcement. As we see it, The Palace could potentially remain viable as an entertainment venue, a sports and entertainment venue if perhaps another team were brought into the arena, or could be demolished and the land redeveloped. Regardless of the final outcome, we have every reason to believe that the arena's owner, Mr. Gores, will do the right thing and either continue to put the arena to good use or redevelop the property so as to positively contribute to the overall good of the City and the greater community."

The Pistons have been in discussions to move back into Detroit after spending the last 38 years playing north of the city. The Pistons last played in Detroit at Cobo Hall from 1961 to 1978, the year they moved to Pontiac.

The Pistons played at the Silverdome for 10 years until 1989 when the Palace of Auburn Hills was built.

Last month word came out that Pistons ownership was involved in plans to build a 60,000-square-foot practice facility in Detroit.

FOX 2 will stream the press conference at FOX2detroit.com/live, on our Facebook page, and on our YouTube channel.
