The University of Detroit Mercy announced Wednesday they have hired former Indiana and University of Alabama Birmingham and current Texas Southern head coach Mike Davis to lead their men's basketball program.

Davis, 57, went 16-20 last season for Texas Southern, but made the NCAA Tournament after winning their conference and won the play-in game, only to lose to Xavier.  In six seasons at Texas Southern, they made the NCAA Tournament four times while compiling a 115-89 record.

After replacing Bobby Knight, in six seasons leading the Hoosiers, the Alabama native led the Hoosiers to a 115-79 record and four NCAA Tournaments.  He went 122-73 at UAB and led the Blazers to one NCAA Tournament.

Davis replaces Titans' alum Bacari Alexander who was let go after two seasons of compiling a 12-44 record including being suspended seven games last season for personal reasons.

There will be a press conference Thursday officially introducing Davis as the 22nd Head Coach of the Titans.
