For Kevin Fischer, it was the stigma around mental health and the need for medication that led to his son taking his own life in 2010. The 23-year-old Dominique had stopped going to therapy and began self-medicating with alcohol and marijuana, before committing suicide. His dad has made it his life's work to normalize discussions around struggling with mental health, especially in the African American community.

On August 28, teens from Metro Detroit will gather at the Emagine Theater in Royal Oak to attend this year's Evening of Dreams gala. It hit Olivia Goff like a ton of bricks. News of a second detection of cancer after she had beaten it one time had returned just as soon as she was starting school to be a nurse. She would go through several rounds of intense chemotherapy at the same hospital she now works before entering remission.

Fenton Teen Decorates Hospital Rooms for the Holidays

After recovering from cancer, 17 year old Toby Versola wanted to help children in the hospital feel more at home. He decided to pair with an organization called Wish Upon a Teen that helped him in his time of need. Now, he's making the holidays a whole lot brighter for kids at Mott Children's Hospital.
