To celebrate the start of Kwanzaa, the first candle was lit during an event in Downtown Detroit on Thursday. The celebration of African American culture and history is a week long.

Motor City Kwanzaa celebration and Kinara lighting

Thursday marks the start of Kwanzaa, and in downtown Detroit, things are even brighter with the menorah lighting ceremony, which took place just a short time ago. It's all part of the Motor City Kwanzaa celebration, which also includes performers and drummers doing their thing on stage, and Martius is actually the world's largest candelabra.
