Oscar rapidly intensified from a tropical storm into an 80-mph hurricane on Saturday, causing islands in its potential path to issue watches and warnings, ahead of the small but mighty cyclone.

Hurricane Helene swept away Ricky Wiebe's family's home, leaving four loved ones, including a 13-year-old boy, missing and presumed dead.

After a cold start, expect plenty of sunshine and a warm afternoon.

"A bunch of flooded houses - flooded streets - debris stacked up in the middle of the streets - definitely a lot of damage," said Chief Warrant Officer Ryan Savage.

NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center forecasters said they still expect a La Niña to develop during the fall and play a role in temperatures and precipitation trends across the country. However, the La Niña that develops is expected to be weak and short-lived, forecasters said.
