What does president immunity actually mean?

The Supreme Court ruled that former presidents have at least some immunity for official acts. The decision sets the stage for former president Donald Trump's legal team to claim immunity from criminal prosecution for *some* of his actions in his federal election interference case but some are questioning what the ruling means for the upcoming and future elections.
