Detroit father seeks justice after son fatally shot

What was supposed to be a night of celebration turned into a tragedy on June 29, 2023, when 38-year-old Deandre Bankhead was shot and killed in his car. The shooter claims it was an act of self-defense, but Bankhead’s father, Andre Sheffield, believes there’s more to the story. According to Sheffield, Bankhead had too much to drink and decided to sleep in his car outside a home on Kimberly Court near Grand River and Joy. A man approached the car, knocking on the window due to loud music. When Bankhead appeared to be reaching for something, the man shot him, thinking he was grabbing a weapon. However, he says no gun was found in the car. Sheffield is now asking for witnesses to come forward, hoping that someone can provide information to help reopen the case. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for any tips that lead to an arrest.
