Detroit snow timeline: When to expect winter weather Friday in Southeast Michigan
DETROIT (FOX 2) - Snow lovers, today’s your day! Southeast Michigan will get its first moderate snow of 2025 on Friday, and it’s a classic.
Here’s how it unfolds:
Snow timeline
A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect for all of Southeast Michigan from 1 p.m. Friday until 1 a.m. Saturday.
Light snow flurries begin around noon, enough to dust the roads and remind you winter has officially arrived. But don’t be fooled—that’s just the warm-up.
The heavier snow arrives between 3 and 4 p.m., as the bigger snowflakes move in.
By the time the evening commute is underway, the roads will be slick.
Snowfall continues steadily through the evening and into the night, tapering off around 2 a.m.
When it’s all said and done, most of us will wake up Saturday morning to a blanket of 2-3 inches of fresh snow. While it’s not a blockbuster storm, it’s enough to grab the shovel or fire up the snowblower before breakfast.
Road conditions Friday
Roads could turn slick as snow accumulates, especially after sunset. Drive cautiously, especially during tonight’s rush hour when visibility may drop, and untreated surfaces could turn icy.
Saturday forecast
Looking ahead to Saturday, temperatures will hover in the upper 20s to low 30s, so the snow isn’t going anywhere fast. If you’ve been waiting for an excuse to dust off your winter gear or get in some snowball fights, this is it.
Bundle up, drive safe, and enjoy the season’s first real taste of winter. It’s finally here.
