Metro Detroit weather: Above average temps Monday before snow chances return
DETROIT (FOX 2) - Temperatures rule once again Monday.
Above-seasonal temperatures to start the day keep mainly rain in place this morning, but there are some exceptions. Near Port Huron, Pigeon, and Port Austin, snow is mixing in with the rain for your morning commute.
Yesterday's rain was a record breaker. 1.43 inches, breaking a record rainfall of 1.34 inches originally set in 1940. The low pressure associated with that rain is steadily moving north, increasing the wind speed today, SW 15-20 mph and gusty.
Temperatures this afternoon remain above the norm, 45, but colder air is expected to move in overnight, dropping the readings to near freezing. That will make a difference on New Year's Eve night, when those cold temperatures will bring the threat of a rain/snow mix after 10 p.m.
With colder air in place and a little moisture left over, we could welcome in 2025 with light snow Wednesday. We trade seasonal temperatures for below average values by the weekend with hghs in the 20s and snow chances increasing.
