Metro Detroit weather: Cold sticks around, with single-digit wind chills in the forecast
DETROIT (FOX 2) - Temperatures in metro Detroit hover just below freezing today, with highs reaching 28 degrees.
A northwest wind at 10 to 20 mph will add some extra chill to the air, so you’ll want to bundle up. Light flurries are expected through the day, but they won’t be as persistent or widespread as yesterday’s snowfall. The roads should stay mostly dry, and unlike yesterday morning, there’s no freezing drizzle to worry about—just cold, crisp air dominating the region.
Tonight, temperatures dip to around 16 degrees. Add in the wind, and it’ll feel closer to 6. If you’re heading out this evening, make sure to dress in layers to protect against the biting chill. A heavy coat, gloves, and a hat will be essential for anyone braving the outdoors.
Tomorrow brings even colder conditions as highs only reach 23 degrees. The northwest wind will linger, keeping the air brisk and reinforcing the winter chill. There’s a chance for some breaks in the clouds, but don’t expect much warmth—this cold snap is here to stay.
Looking ahead, the rest of the week stays locked in a deep freeze. Daytime highs will hover in the low to mid 20s, and overnight lows will flirt with the single digits in some areas. By Friday, a new system moves in, bringing the potential for accumulating snow. While it’s still too early to pinpoint totals, this system could deliver a fresh layer of winter’s signature white. An inch is possible
For now, it’s a week for thick scarves, heavy coats, and plenty of hot coffee. Winter has taken a firm hold of metro Detroit, and it’s not loosening its grip anytime soon. Stay warm out there!
