Metro Detroit weather: Dense Fog Advisory to start a damp day

We’re waking up to a blanket of fog this Monday, with a Dense Fog Advisory in effect until 10 a.m. Visibility is down to near zero in some areas, so take it easy on the roads and allow for extra time on your morning commute.

The foggy start gives way to a damp day ahead. Spotty showers will stick around through the afternoon, and you’ll notice a steady breeze out of the south at 10-20 mph. Temperatures will climb to a high near 52°, keeping us on the mild side despite the gray skies. It’s not the prettiest day, but it’s a good one to keep an umbrella within reach.

Tonight, conditions stay soggy with mostly cloudy skies. Temperatures dip to a low near 36°, staying just warm enough to avoid icy conditions. However, the chill in the air will start setting the stage for a cooler pattern heading into the week.

On Tuesday, we’ll see temperatures pull back to around 42° under mostly cloudy skies. It’ll be cooler and quieter, though still feeling a bit damp. By Wednesday, winter starts to make its presence felt. A wintry mix is possible during the day, with rain and snow showers both in the cards. While significant accumulations aren’t expected yet, it’s a good reminder to prepare for slicker travel as colder air settles in.

As we move further into the week, temperatures will continue to slide. Highs will fall into the 30s, making it feel much more like December in Michigan. More snow is expected Thursday night into Friday as a clipper system hits us (again).  This could bring some higher snow accumulations to end the work week.

Stay safe in the fog this morning, and get ready for a chilly, wet start to the week!
