Rain then snow expected this New Year's Eve in metro Detroit

Whatever your holiday plans are this evening, prepare for possible slick roads.

A mix of rain and snow will be in the forecast for most of Tuesday.

As temperatures fall, it will transition to snow, which residents can expect to fall through the rest of the day and into the new year.

This is all thanks to a low pressure system moving through the Ohio Valley, pushing north.

Temperatures will be near freezing towards midnight. By then some areas will have 1 to 2 inches of snow.

Pontiac and Howell are already experiencing slick roads. The farther north you go, you could run into more accumulation. Use extreme caution if you're heading out this evening.

After the new year begins, expect much colder temperatures as we approach the weekend. Daytime highs won't exceed the mid-20s while more snow is in the forecast on Sunday.
