Sub-zero wind chills incoming as Michigan temperatures keep falling

The winter feel isn’t letting up, with steady cold and more light snow showers on Friday.

Any snow accumulation will be minimal, remaining under an inch. However, it could potentially fall at all times during the day.

As a result, the National Weather Service put out a special weather statement about snow showers across parts of Southeast Michigan on Friday morning.

That could lead to a quick coating of snow on untreated roadways, so watch for slippery conditions in the early hours. The NWS expects no more than half an inch to accumulate for cities like Saginaw, Flint, Port Huron, Howell, Pontiac, Warren, and Detroit.

The cold hangs on through the weekend, with overnight wind chills dipping into the single digits. Expect a typical January feel for the Lions game on Sunday.

It will feel as cold as 7 degrees overnight leading into Saturday and 8 degrees overnight leading into Sunday. During that time, snow is possible until Saturday night.

We’re still keeping an eye on a potential snowmaker moving across the country and skimming just south of us on Monday. Current data ranges from a total miss to light snow in our southernmost communities—but it’s more likely to be a miss than a hit.

Behind the system, the cold gets reinforced, with highs in the 20s holding strong through next week.
