Fox 2's Derek Kevra says snowfall Sunday is no joke
The first major snow is headed our way and will impact us through the day on Sunday and as we dig out on Monday. Many spots will see above 6" and some areas could get into double digits (it wouldn't surprise me).
Timing: 2 AM Sunday morning through 4 AM Monday morning
Totals: 6-9" likely, some spots between 8-10"
The key thing to remember is that this is going to be ALL DAY snow on Sunday. By the time we wake up there will only be 1-2" on the ground. By lunch time it will be closer to 2-4" and by dinner it will be between 5-7". But the snow won't end until early Monday... which is why the totals could be closer to 8" before all is said and done.
I don't expect the snow to be overly wet or heavy, but 6-10" is still 6-10" and will be tough to shovel. Make sure you take plenty of breaks and don't hurt yourself. Tackling it in shifts isn't a bad idea either ... shoveling some at 3 p.m. and then again on Monday morning will make it easier on you.
The snow will likely have an impact on the Monday morning commute. Make sure you leave yourself plenty of time and assume that things will be slow going.
I'm getting asked about flights and school "snow days" on Monday ... and while I do think each will be impacted, it's hard to nail down who will see what. Pay attention to Fox 2 News as those types of alerts start rolling in.
We will be live on Facebook many times throughout the event, so make sure you check us out there.
UPDATE: Much of southeast Michigan was blanketed by around 10" of snow. You can read more about our total snowfall here.
