'Another senseless incident': Road rage leads to shooting on Southfield Freeway
DETROIT (FOX 2) - A driver's vehicle was shot numerous times during a road rage incident Wednesday morning on the Southfield Freeway in Detroit, police said.
According to Michigan State Police, the victim, a 33-year-old Taylor man, was driving north on the freeway near Schoolcraft when he was shot at around 8:45 a.m.
"This appears to be another senseless incident where someone used a firearm to settle a driving dispute. We are very fortunate that no one was struck by one of these bullets," said MSP F/Lt. Mike Shaw.
Officers have since arrested an individual and recovered a handgun.
Police were called about the shooting and stopped a vehicle with bullet holes on the Southfield Freeway service drive near 8 Mile. After speaking with the driver, they learned that he wasn't wounded in the shooting.
The suspected shooting got off the freeway at Grand River.
Writing on social media Wednesday afternoon, state police said more evidence and witness tips helped identify a suspect vehicle.
"Thank you to the members of our community who witnessed this crime and provided information that led us to this suspect." Shaw said. "We appreciate the partnership we have with the community that helps us build a Michigan where everyone feels safe and secure."
