Baltimore homicide detective dies after being shot in head, police say

BALTIMORE - A Baltimore homicide detective who was shot in the head Wednesday afternoon has died from his injuries, according to officials.

Authorities identified the detective as 43-year-old Sean Suiter, an 18-year veteran of the department and a father of five.

Suiter, a former U.S. Navy officer, was shot in the 900 block of Bennett Place in West Baltimore at about 4:30 p.m. and was rushed to the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

Baltimore Police Commissioner Kevin Davis said the detective was on-duty conducting a follow-up investigation on a 2016 homicide in the area when he was shot. The gunman remains at-large. He was only described as a man wearing a black jacket with a white stripe.

Davis said the suspect may have been wounded in the confrontation.

A $69,000 reward was being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction of Sutier's killer.
