Dearborn roundup: Police announce arrests in several ongoing crimes
The Dearborn Police Department held a press conference Tuesday where they announced the arrests of several different people who are suspects in unrelated crimes.
Police announced the arrest of 9 different men and women ranging in crimes from larceny from a motor vehicle to armed robbery to murder.
The ongoing cases have been under investigation by Dearborn police from as far back as October.
MURDER
On October 16, Dearborn police were called to the area of Madison and Bennet where a car crashed into several parked cars. When they arrived, the learned the victim had been shot.
Raymond Mshahwar, a 33-year-old man from Canton, was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead.
Nearly two months later, police arrested their suspects. On December 13, Walbert Morales-Castro, 18, and a 16-year-old female were both arrested in connection to the crime.
Both suspects were charged with murder, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, and other crimes. Both were arraigned and held without bond in the case. The 16-year-old was not named but will be tried as an adult.
NIGHT CLUB SHOOTING
On November 25, police were called to a large crowd leaving a bar on Michigan Ave. When police arrived, they said they heard a gunshot and saw a 25-year-old Detroit man walking towards them and holding his stomach.
Police interviewed several people and eventually found the suspect they identified as Taelor Coker. The 28-year-old West Bloomfield resident turned herself in to police. She has a valid CPL and also turned over the semi-automatic pistol.
She's been charged with assault with intent to murder and was issued a $50,000 bond.
CARJACKING, SHOOTING, AND ARMED ROBBERY
On December 3, police responded to an injury accident at Michigan and Schaefer around 11:30 p.m. Witnesses reported gunshots and when police arrived, they found a 26-year-old Inkster resident with a gunshot wound to his face.
The suspect's vehicle was left at the scene and police said it was recently stolen in a carjacking/murder in Detroit. Police also said the man committed another carjacking in Detroit just two hours later.
That man was identified by Dearborn police, Detroit police, and Michigan State Police as Eric Smothers. The 24-year-old Detroit man was arrested and has a long criminal history and is being charged with assault with intent to murder, carjacking, armed robbery, and othe rfelonies.
ARMED ROBBERY
On December 2, police were called to an armed robbery of a business at Michigan and Greenfield. The employee said a black man demanded money and showed a black gun tucked into his waistband.
He got the money and then left the store and got into a 1996 Honda Accord driven by a woman.
Dearborn police said the same suspect had committed an armed robbery in Dearborn Heights just a few hours before.
After an investigation, police found the Honda in a Detroit hotel parking lot. The two suspects, identified as Teon McClain and Christine Howard, were both arrested at the scene.
The Indiana residents have extensive criminal history in multiple states and McClain is wanted for armed robbery out of Indiana. Both were arraigned and held on a $500,000 cash bond.
BREAKING AND ENTERING
Dearborn Police were called to a different business on December 11 to a breaking and entering alarm. When they arrived, they found the front door was shattered and the business was a wreck.
Footage showed the suspect, later identified as Frederick Tumminello, breaking in and entering with another man, police said. Once inside, police said the two stole a few items and then left.
Police said they recognized Tumminello from previous contact with him and arrested the Ann Arbor man for breaking & entering building, possession of burglary tools and habitual offender-4th offense. Police identified the other suspect as a 15-year-old juvenile and did not release his name.
THEFTS FROM CARS
Police said over the past few months, multiple people have reported items stolen from unlocked vehicles.
Police were following up a call to a home on Appoline by a victim who had checks stolen. The victim said the checks had been cashed and the name on the checks was Mohammad Hachem.
The 22-year-old Dearborn man was linked to 22 different cases. Charges are pending in all of those cases. He's in the Wayne County Jail on one charge of possession of stolen financial transaction device.
SHOOTING SUSPECT ON THE RUN
Dearborn Police announced details on a case they said is still unsolved. Police were called to the area of Hubbard and Southfield on October 29 to a report of shots fired.
The victim said he and his family were at a traffic light for eastbound Hubbard when a man pulled up and started shooting at their car.
Police released a picture of a man they describe as an Arabic man between the age of 20 and 30. Anyone with information is asked to call 313-943-2006.
