Detroit woman says her Jefferson Square apartment overrun by mice

DETROIT (WJBK) - A Detroit woman says her Jefferson Square apartment is overrun by mice and her landlord hasn't helped.

Some mice are dead, some are alive - and they are everywhere. Grossed out in her own home, Cyntia Hubbard says she can't take it any longer.

"I've seen two run in my stove, I've seen on in the closet," she said. "They are in my cooking grease, my dishrag, in my walls.

"I pay rent; I should not have to live like this."

Hubbard, 27, has lived in her Jefferson Square apartment on Detroit's Dickerson and Freud streets with her two young daughters for just over a year.

She says within the last six months; she's had dozens of new visitors. And it's not just the mice scurrying while they're eating, sleeping, even cooking.

"When you see three or four run up where you have to cook at, while you're cooking you see a mouse floating in grease - that's nasty," she said.

She is also dealing with the feces left behind. Hubbard says the complex has sent out crews to set traps and fill the holes.

Her children are too afraid that critters will crawl on them as they sleep.

"They sleep in my bed, they are too afraid of the mice running around here," she said.

When FOX 2 tried to speak to the managers in the apartment office we were told the issue is being addressed - and got referred us to their corporate office.

And so far, they haven't called us back. Hubbard says she was told it was an issue with her foundation.

"I just want them to fix the problem," she said. "That's it."

Meanwhile, Hubbard is setting traps herself and cleaning up the mice before her little girls get home from school.

"Until it gets fixed I am going to put my money in escrow and not keep giving them my money," she said.
