Macomb County dispatcher helps deliver baby

A dispatcher working out of Macomb County was the unlikely hero after a man called 911 because his wife had gone into labor.

While on the phone with the caller, Cidnee Schramm used poise and a calm voice to guide him through the steps when the baby was born.

She picked up around 5:42 a.m. from the sheriff's dispatch center, learning the woman's water had broken and her contractions were one minute apart.

First, she told the man where to place his hand as the baby started to appear. She told him to wipe the baby's mouth to remove any fluid, while advising to rub the newborn's back to stimulate breathing.

Throughout the call, the expecting mother can be heard in the background. Eventually, so can her baby's cries.

Schramm stayed on the phone until the Clinton Township Fire Department made it to the scene.

"We are incredibly proud of the composed and professional manner in which Dispatcher Schramm handled this call," stated Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham."Dispatchers like Cidnee prepare diligently for instances like this, and we are thankful for this positive outcome."

Both the baby and their mom are doing well, the sheriff's office can report.
