DETROIT (FOX 2) - If you'll be enjoying alcohol during your holiday celebrations, making sure you have a sober ride home beforehand is imperative. However, if you fail to plan ahead, or your ride falls through, AAA has a free, last resort option to get you home safely.
What is Tow To Go?
"If you’re faced with the decision of driving impaired, put down those keys and pick up the phone to call Tow to Go," said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson for AAA – The Auto Club Group. "AAA will then send a truck to take you and your vehicle to a safe location within a 10-mile radius."
You can use Tow To Go even if you are not an AAA customer.
It is designed as a confidential service for people who did not plan ahead and designate a sober driver, so appointments cannot be booked in advance. The service will take you home and tow your vehicle home or somewhere within 10 miles.
The service is considered to be a last resort if there's no other way home, such as Uber or Lyft.
When and where is Tow To Go available?
Tow To Go will be available from 6 p.m. Dec. 24 through 6 a.m. Jan. 2, 2025.
Tow To Go is an option in Michigan, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, North Dakota, Nebraska, Tennessee, Wisconsin, and Colorado. The service is also available in Denver, Colo.; Charlotte, N.C.; and Fort Wayne and South Bend, Ind.
Tow to Go may not be available in rural areas or if weather is severe.
