Driver in St. Clair Shores smashes through condominium wall

A frightening close call for a woman in St. Clair Shores.

She was home and inside the front room of her condo when a wrong-way driver came crashing through the wall.

"I was sleeping, and I heard a really big boom and I looked out my window, and then I see a car and all the windows just knocked out," said neighbor Morgan Rogers.

A pick-up truck had slammed into the front of her next-door neighbor’s condo, lived in by Christine Chilcutt.

"I just opened the curtains, walked away, and I heard a crash and I turned, and there was a truck in my living room," said Chilcutt.

It happened on Friday morning in St. Clair Shores on Harper near Masonic.

"First I was just shocked and just in disbelief and then my first reaction was to call 911. I called 911, they already had someone on the way," said Chilcutt.

You can see the tire tracks on the grass where the truck swerved off the road and straight into Christine Chilcutt’s home. With her husband on his way to work, she immediately thought of her cats, Bella and Steffie.

"I guess they booked it downstairs - finally found them hiding - my first concern was where they were at cause their cat tree house is like right there, and found them so relief on that," she said.

Witnesses say they saw police arrest the driver at the scene. FOX 2 is working to find out if she was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Meanwhile, Chilcutt is happy to be alive, knowing it could have been a lot worse.

"We sit in that living room on that couch a lot, watching TV and if the circumstances were different, if we were just watching TV it could have been a different outcome."
